The French have a nice expression for the location of this (holiday) paradise; "au fin du monde" or "at the end of the world". This little paradise is completely quiet and deserted among meadows and forests. The access road winds between meadows and farms with breathtaking views over the Limousin hills. Once you reach the level crossing, the road ends, with the cottage on the right, and beyond that just nature.
Splendid view
From the garden you have fantastic views over the meadows and the woods behind. Between them meanders the river Vienne, just 2 minutes' walk away, for 2 km of fishing fun on trout and perch. The location is beautiful, very private and secluded. Luckily a little train sometimes passes by and in the summer months a steam train, otherwise you wouldn't see anyone all day!
Expanded
The house was built around 1870 by the French Railways. The current owners have made an extension and fully adapted it to the requirements of today. On the ground floor is the small, cosy living room with wood-burning stove on the south side. The modern kitchen is large enough for the dining table and is equipped with a heat pump/air conditioning system. There is also an extra shower. The utility room/entrance gives access to the spacious covered terrace with fireplace and also to the bathroom with shower, washbasins and toilet. The attached (3rd) bedroom has its own entrance as well as a (sliding) door to the bathroom/WC, making it ideal for guests or for use by a disabled person.
Upstairs are a separate toilet and two bedrooms. All windows have double glazing and mosquito nets. The rooms are heated with infrared panels in addition to the wood-burning stove in the living room and the heat pump/airco in the kitchen. "All in all, a very comfortable house that can be lived in all year round" say the currend owners.
Various terraces
The garden has several terraces and sitting areas, a jeu-de-boules court and a greenhouse. The canopy with a clearance height of 3 metres is ideal for a caravan or camper. The shed is about 11 m2. In line with the garden is an additional strip of grassland and a little private woodland. Surrounding the garden are meadows and woods so your perception of space is enormous at this spot. The location is ideal for peace seekers and walkers. You can start your walk right at the front door through the meadows, along the small roads or through the woods!
Location
You can do your shopping in Chateauneuf la Foret, which can be reached within 10 minutes. This is a larger village with all amenities: a big supermarket, bakeries, restaurant, pharmacy, bar tabac, tennis courts and even a cinema. In the village is a primary and secondary school. There are regular vide-greniers, markets and other festivities including the 14th of July celebration with the finest fireworks in the area! There is a lake with a beach and various play and sports equipment around it. The section cordoned off for children is guarded by lifeguards in summer. But walkers and cyclists can also enjoy a lap around the lake.
