Railway cottage

This railwayman's cottage, in the middle of the village of Eymoutiers, was occupied until 10 years ago.

The cottage
It consists of a simple kitchen of 15 m² with sink and floor tiles, typical of the 1950s, a separate toilet and a functional bathroom of 5 m². Adjacent to the kitchen, a living room of 20 m² and an adjoining (bedroom) room of 14 m². In fact, it is a one-storey house!

To bring the cottage up to today's standard, a complete renovation is needed. The electrics need to be renewed, the kitchen and sanitary facilities, and the cottage needs to be connected to the municipal sewer system. The house has water and there is gas central heating. The electricity meter has to be renewed/replaced. The floors on the first floor need to be treated because of woodworm, the wooden floor on the ground floor needs to be replaced.

Outbuildings
Next to the entrance, you will find the railway employee's 'gueritte' (guardhouse). This space of about 5 m² is the ideal place to leave garden boots or trainers, or to store plants during winter.

Most railway guard houses have the same layout, but differ from each other in a number of ways. This watchman's house has a basement, in addition to the extra room on the ground floor, which is only accessible from outside. Useful for garden furniture, tools and firewood. Nice details here are the oven in the corner and the 'lavoir' (sink).

Garden
The garden is small, it is only 390 m², and fully fenced. It is possible to walk all around. You will find a small shed and a garden shed at the back. The latter 2 are fitted with corrugated asbestos sheeting.

Eymoutiers
The house is located on the outskirts of the village, not far from the La Vienne river that winds through the village. Many cars but also trucks pass by going to the small industrial estate located some distance away. Unfortunately, these do not drown out the sound of the river. The Paul Rebeyrolle museum is also nearby.

The lively village of Eymoutiers with its shops, boutiques and, of course, restaurants are within walking distance! Bank branches, a hairdresser, a doctor's surgery and other amenities are also available. A large supermarket is located on the outskirts of the village. The touristy Lac de Vassivière can be reached within 15 minutes.
